Award Process

The challenge for our martial artists being recognized this year began in January of 2015. After 365 days of training hard, advancing through the ranks or being promoted to the next class we have announced that this year's awards banquet will take a twist that has never been seen before.

All students are still considered in an initial vetting process before final nominees are selected by our selection committee. Together we will evaluate all nominations based on criteria specific to each award category, we will focus on the nominee's ability and achievements as well as any special goals that have been accomplished throughout the year.

Among the pool of nominees, our selection committee has determined the finalists and award recipients that will be recognized at this year's banquet.

The interest and anticipation will build as we lead up to this historic event. The presentation format is completely new, the effects will be extraordinarily different and you will be blown away by the entire evening.

Countless students have received special recognition awards, most improved awards, sportsmanship recognition, fighter of the year, leader of the year and the top honours of Martial Artist of the Year. But you have never seen an awards show quite like the one you are about to witness.

Most Improved Awards

The rewards of being nominated for the Golden Griffin Awards are many. Nominees receive website recognition and a reception held in their honour prior to the awards banquet. Each nominee will receive a commemorative certificate which alone speaks volumes about a student's achievements.

Red Griffin Martial Arts has always been proud to provide a platform to recognize the individual efforts of its students and celebrate with them, their families and friends.

As one of our premiere annual events, our Organizing Committee works diligently to garner quality nominations from every class. This group co-ordinates and organizes the process, but all judging is completed by senior ranking instructors.

Leader of the Year - Plaque

This award is based on the different dynamics of being a good leader. All leaders are evaluated on overall improvement, how well they work with the younger students and their fellow teammates. It is also an award in which team members get a chance to vote for each other as to who will be named "Leader of the Year".

Sportsmanship Award

The Sportsmanship Award is presented to a student who always has a positive attitude and shows respect for their fellow classmates, leaders and instructors. It is not based on winning or losing but rather the positive qualities of competing, fair play and determination to succeed.

Fighter of the Year

The Fighter of the Year Award is presented to a student who attends our fight classes. This award focuses on students who have improved their fighting abilities and have demonstrated a solid understanding of sportsmanship, fair play and an overall appreciation for the Sport of Jiu Jitsu.

Competitor of the Year

The Competitor of the Year is presented to a student who competes on TEAM GRIFFIN. This award celebrates a competitors ability to return to the podium time and time again while maintaining the qualities of a well disciplined fighter. This individual trains hard, fights competitively and maintains humbleness in victory and sportsmanship in defeat.

Martial Artist of the Year

The Martial Artist of the Year Award is the highest honour of the night. The recipient of this award is an individual who demonstrates the true qualities of a martial artist in all aspects of his/her life.
